CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team will take on No. 7 seed Wofford in the first round of the 2020 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championships presented by General Shale on Friday night. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to play No. 2 seed Furman on Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
ABEE NAMED TO SOCON ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Freshman guard
Fletcher Abee was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team by both the coaches and the SoCon Sports Media Association (SCSMA). Abee is the first Bulldog to earn All-Freshman Team honors since
Kaelon Harris and
Preston Parks both earned the honor following the 2016-17 season. Abee is the first Bulldog to be named a consensus All-Freshman selection since Parks, and he is just the seventh Bulldog in program history to earn honors from both entities. Abee is the top-ranked freshman in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.6) and minutes played (32.3), and is the second-leading freshman in scoring (12.0), steals (1.2) and total 3-pointers made (76). In SoCon only games, Abee is the top ranked freshman in scoring (12.2), total 3-pointers made (46), made 3-pointers per game (2.6) and minutes played (34.1). Abee is currently ranked in the top 10 in program history in 11 statistical categories for freshman-year records.
FLETCH IN THE RECORD BOOK
Abee scored seven points on Feb. 29, giving him 349 on the year. His 349 points scored moved Abee up from seventh to sole possession of fifth in program history for points scored by a freshman.

With his one made 3-pointer on Feb. 29 at Furman, Abee improved his season total to 76, third-most in program history for 3-pointers made by a freshman. He is just one away from Parks in second and three away from
Austin Dahn (2007-08) in first. Abee's 76 made 3-pointers this season rank 11
th in program history for made 3-pointers in a single season.
TYSON NATIONALLY
Tyson Batiste heads into the week ranked 38
th in NCAA Division I with 156 total assists. The Springfield, Missouri native is also ranked 41
st in the nation with an average of 5.4 assists per game.
TYSON WITH THE ASSIST
With his three assists at Furman on Feb. 29, Batiste moved up from tied for fifth to sole possession of fourth in program history for single-season assists with 156.
MR. 900
On Feb. 26, Harris eclipsed the 900-point mark for his career. He became the 44
th Bulldog in program history to hit the mark. Heading into the SoCon Tournament, Harris boasts 930 career points, a mark that has him 41
st in program history for points scored.
BIG K WITH THE BOARD
Harris brought down six defensive rebounds on Feb. 29 at Furman, giving him 354 for his career and 146 this season. The 146 defensive rebounds this season rank fifth in program history, while his 354 career defensive rebounds rank 11
th.
THE HISTORY WITH WOFFORD
Wofford holds a 60-49 record over the Bulldogs with Friday marking the 110th meeting on the hardwood between the two programs. The Citadel and Wofford have met just once on a neutral court with the Terriers winning 68-51 in the quarterfinal round of the 2014 tournament held in Asheville. It is also the only time the two teams have met in the tournament.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
Wofford heads into Friday's game with an overall record of 16-15. The Terriers have lost seven straight games since defeating VMI 79-73 on Feb. 5 in Lexington, Virginia. Wofford has lost all but one of those games by single digits with an average deficit of 5.4 points. The Terriers closed the season out with a 59-47 loss at Mercer on Feb. 29. Wofford heads into this week averaging 71.7 points per game compared to 68.2 points per outing by their opponents. Wofford is currently shooting 45.6% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the 3-point arc. Their foes have connected on 43.8% of shots from the field, including 32.9% from long range. Wofford is tied with Furman for 12th in NCAA Division I with 294 made 3-pointres and is also tied with the Paladins for 20th in the nation with an average of 9.5 made treys per game.
WOFFORD INDIVIDUALLY
Wofford is led by three players who are currently averaging double-digit scoring, including
Nathan Hoover's 15.3 points per game. Hoover also leads the team with an average of 33.6 minutes played per game and 78 made 3-pointers. Behind Hoover,
Storm Murphy averages 11.8 points per game, while
Chevez Goodwin adds 11.4. Murphy is second on the team behind Hoover with 57 made 3-pointers, just four ahead of
Tray Hollowell, who averages 7.5 points per game. Goodwin leads the team with a rebounding average of 6.2 boards per game.
Messiah Jones is second with 4.1 rebounds per contest. Of those players who have taken at least 100 shots, Jones leads the team with a .687 shooting percentage, while Goodwin is also shooting over 60.0% at .621. Murphy leads the team with a 3-point shooting percentage of .419, and Murphy also leads the team with 103 assists. Hoover leads the team with a .934 free throw percentage. Hoover, Goodwin and
Trevor Stumpe have started all 31 games, while Murphy has missed just one game as a starter.
Ryan Larson boasts the next highest number of starts with 25 of his 28 games played.
