Bulldogs to Face Top-Seed Chattanooga Today at Noon

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Citadel takes an impressive Friday-night overtime win against ETSU into its Southern Conference (SoCon) Quarterfinals matchup against Chattanooga Saturday at 12 noon.

The Citadel's 84-76 OT win over ETSU Friday marked the Bulldogs' first neutral-site OT win since Nov. 28, 1977, beating College of Charleston, 84-82.

THE CITADEL OVERPOWERS ETSU IN OT
David Maynard's late free throws sent Friday's first-round SoCon Tournament game with ETSU to overtime tied at 69-69, opening the door for the Bulldogs to score the first six points on their way to a 15-7 run in the extra session for the 84-76 win. Hayden Brown broke the school record for career double-doubles with 28, netting a game-high 27 points and 17 rebounds. Tyler Moffe delivered 22 points in a full 45 minutes of work as Stephen Clark had 10 rebounds and eight assists. The victory marked The Citadel's first-ever SoCon Tournament win over ETSU as Duggar Baucom earned the most SoCon Tournament wins for a head coach in program history with four.

ROCHE F.O.Y., BROWN ALL-LEAGUE IN SOCON POLLS
Freshman forward Jason Roche was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year in both the Coaches' and Media Polls, while graduate student forward Hayden Brown earned First Team in the Media voting and Second Team in the Coaches' selections.

BROWN NAMED SOCON'S FINAL PLAYER OF WEEK
Forward Hayden Brown earned the SoCon's regular season finale edition of the Player of the Week after logging two double-double and averaging 16.0 points and 15.3 rebounds between The Citadel's road games at Samford Monday and Mercer Wednesday, followed by Furman at home Saturday. He had 17 points and a season-best 19 rebounds (3rd most all-time) at Samford last Monday and finished one rebound shy of another double-double at Mercer with 14 points and nine rebounds. Brown had 17 points with 18 boards Senior Day Saturday with Furman.

RISING THROUGH THE RANKS!
Jason Roche has 109 threes this season, further cementing his school freshman record that ranks second all-time. Hayden Brown has totaled 81 rebounds and four double-doubles the last five games, including becoming the first in program history with at least 18 rebounds in consecutive games, to move into second all-time with 742 career boards. His 27 points against ETSU Friday moved him into 10th all-time with 1,385 career points. He is only the third person to have both 1,300 career points and 700 career boards. Brown tied the career program record with 27 double-doubles. Stephen Clark had two blocks on the Buccaneers for second-most blocks in one season with 75 and fourth-most career blocks with 137.

THE STORY SO FAR WITH CHATTANOOGA...
Saturday, Jan. 8: UTC 85, The Citadel 67 (at UTC)

Stephen Clark posted his first career 20-point game with 22 points, making 9-of-15 from the field with 16 second-half points. He also added six rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. The Bulldogs remained toe-for-toe with the Mocs in the opening half, trailing 36-31 at the break. They did not get any closer, however, as Chattanooga outscored The Citadel, 49-36, in the second half, pumping its lead to as much as 20.

Saturday, Jan. 29: UTC 75, The Citadel 62 (at The Citadel)
The Citadel proved worthy contenders against first-place Chattanooga, despite the 75-62 defeat. Several Bulldogs accepted bigger roles, including Jackson Price and Owen Spencer, who both stepped up in the wake of Hayden Brown's absence with seven and five rebounds, respectively. Stephen Clark had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Tyler Moffe rattled in a game-high 21 points and making three 3-pointers. The Mocs' Malachi Smith and David Jean-Baptiste were held below their league-leading averages.

UP TIL NOW...
The Bulldogs' six SoCon regular season wins are the most since 2014-15 and their five road wins the most since 2008-09. The Bulldogs had a pair of three-game, five-day stretches of their SoCon season. The Citadel has posted first-round SoCon Tournament wins in back-to-back years for the second time under head coach Duggar Baucom. The last was 2017/2018. 

TYLER MOFFE: A CAREER IN REVIEW
Making his 111th career NCAA start Friday versus ETSU, Tyler Moffe connected for 22 points for his fourth 20-point game in the last six contests. He set a collegiate career best with 24 points at Mercer in a 71-67 win on Feb. 23. His previous career high was 23 points while at Mansfield University (NCAA Div. II) against Seton Hill on Nov. 23, 2019. All told, the 6'1" point guard has 1,721 career points and 425 career assists between his one season at Jamestown C.C. (N.Y.), three at Mansfield (Pa.), and the last two with The Citadel. 

THE 1,200-600 CLUB
Hayden Brown reached the 600 career rebound milestone at Wofford on Jan. 19 and 1,200 career points versus Chattanooga on Jan. 29, becoming the eighth person ever to reach the 1,200-600 club. Against Mercer on Feb. 23, he became the third Bulldog ever to eclipse 1,300 points and 700 rebounds.
