Grantham Goal Carries Bulldogs to Road Victory at Kennesaw State, 1-0

KENNESAW, Ga. — The Citadel (1-1-1, 0-0-0 SoCon) secured a 1-0 victory over Kennesaw State (1-2-0, 0-0-0 C-USA) on Friday evening at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium. Captain Samantha Grantham knocked in the lone score of the day in the 61st minute, and Zoe Santos recorded a shutout with six saves, extending her streak of at least six saves to two consecutive games.

"Roads wins are so tough to get at this level. I'm really proud of the players and thought that was a really strong performance all around," head coach Ciaran Traquair said. "We defended well, had good control with the ball and carried a threat up top. Delighted for Sammy to get the winning goal for us as well."

First Half
- At 6:35, Emily Steiner's shot was saved by Charlee Bernal, marking the first attempt on target for The Citadel.  
- Grantham hit the left woodwork to start the 24th minute; on the year, she has achieved a total of 10 shots, including three against the Owls.
- Santos saved a bottom-center shot by Julia Balchen at 25:48.
- Bernal swiped a save on Reagan Wise's shot at 43:15, ensuring a deadlocked half at 0-0.

Second Half
- Santos made a key save at 49:27, denying Julia Balchen.
- Grantham notched the decisive goal for The Citadel at 60:25 with an assist coming from Jasiah Pack.
- Santos continued her shutout performance with another save at 79:08, stopping Anabel Orozco's shot to maintain the lead.

As a team, The Citadel paced the offensive production for the day with 14 shots to the Owls' 11 while both squads concluded the match with six attempts on goal apiece. The Bulldogs also set the tone for corner kicks, logging a 5-to-2 edge, while Kennesaw State finished with two yellow cards to just one for The Citadel, awarded to Reagan Wise late in the 64th minute,

For The Citadel, the Bulldogs return home to face South Carolina State on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m., hosting the visiting Bulldogs at Washington Light Infantry Field in Charleston, S.C.
