‘Dogs Conclude Holy City Hoops Classic Wednesday

CHARLESTON, S.C.
– The Citadel men's basketball team will wrap up play in the Holy City Hoops Classic Wednesday when they welcome Toccoa Falls to McAlister Field House.
 
The Bulldogs finished the weekend portion of the tournament 2-1 after downing Colgate and USC Upstate and narrowly falling to Campbell. Zane Najdawi led the 'Dogs with an average of 22.3 points and 8.7 rebounds over the weekend and following the big performance, picked up his second SoCon Player of the Week honor.
 
Toccoa Falls comes to Charleston with a 4-4 record and are led by first-year head coach Jon Egan. The 'Dogs hold a 2-0 advantage in the overall series with the Eagles

FAST FACTS
• The Citadel scored 50 points in a half three times during the Holy City Hoops Classic, marking the 11th time this season the squad has posted at least 50 points in a half. The Citadel has also scored at least 100 points in a game five times this season, something Coach Baucom's squad did just twice last year.
• This season, the Bulldogs started 5-0 inside McAlister Field House. The last time a Bulldog squad started 5-0 or better was in 2004-05 when The Citadel reeled off eight straight home wins to start the year.
• The Citadel's high-powered offense ranks first in seven different categories among Southern Conference members including scoring offense (101.5), free throw percentage (.768), rebounding offense (40.9), assists (20.4), assist/turnover ratio (1.4) offensive rebounds (15.8) and three-point field goals made (13.5).
Zane Najdawi picked up his second Southern Conference Player of the Week award on Dec. 6, making him the first Bulldog since 2012-13 to win two in one season. The sophomore earned his first weekly honor on Nov. 15, which was the first weekly award for The Citadel since 2014.
• The Citadel is 4-0 this season when shooting at least 40 percent from behind the arc.
Matt Frierson and Quayson Williams are both tied for 19th in the NCAA for most three-pointers in a game after the sophomores sank seven in back-to-back contests. Williams is also tied for 15th in the NCAA in three-point field goals per game with 3.50 and has hit at least one trey in every game this season.
Zane Najdawi is currently second in the SoCon in scoring, offensive rebounds and rebounding. He also ranks third in free throw percentage (.861), fourth in defensive rebounds (49) and fifth in blocked shots (12). Williams is ranked seventh with 14.5 points per game.
• With 21 points against Campbell on Dec. 4, Najdawi has posted six 20-point games this season and posted his first 30-point game on Dec. 2 against Colgate.
• Najdawi and Williams lead the 'Dogs in points per game and total points scored.
• Najdawi posted two double-doubles to open the 2016-17 season and is the first Bulldog to post back-to-back double-doubles since Mike Groselle did so in 2011. He recorded his third against Campbell, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds. He has led the team in scoring five times this year and been the team's leading rebounder seven times.
• The sophomores have combined to lead the team in scoring in six of the 10 games this season.
• The Citadel defeated Toccoa Falls 71-58 in the last meeting between the two schools back in 2014. Warren Sledge and Tom Koopman both started for the Bulldogs, combining for 10 points.
Brian White came off the bench and poured in 14 points on five-of-eight shooting from the floor for the 'Dogs. The Citadel controlled the game from start to finish, never allowing the Eagles to lead in the home opener.
