CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel basketball team will play two games this week, including one at home inside McAlister Field House. The Bulldogs host UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, Jan. 15 for a 7 p.m. tipoff before hitting the road for a pair of games. The 'Dogs will first travel to rival VMI on Saturday, Jan. 18 for a 1 p.m. game.
PACK THE MAC
The Bulldogs' annual Pack the Mac event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8 against VMI. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m., and the entire South Carolina Corps of Cadets will be in attendance. The game will also serve as The Citadel's annual Military Appreciation Day, and The Citadel Athletics will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day at that game as well.
LAST TIME OUT
Kaelon Harris turned in his second career 30-point game and seventh-career double-double on Jan. 11, leading all players with 32 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn't quite enough as The Citadel basketball team fell 73-71 to Wofford in Southern Conference action. In the final 53 seconds of the game, The Citadel out-scored the Terriers 13-5, drawing to within three, 69-66, with 15 seconds left when
Derek Webster, Jr. scored a layup off an assist from
Tyson Batiste. With Wofford's
Nathan Hoover hitting four free throws in the final 13 seconds, Batiste took the burden upon himself to score, hitting a layup with six seconds left and then hitting a buzzer-beating, half-court shot to set the final score at 73-71. The Bulldogs ended the game shooting 35.9% (23-of-64) from the field, including going 10-of-33 (.303) from beyond the 3-point arc. The 'Dogs converted 15 of their 21 free throw attempts (.714). Harris led all scorers with his career-high 32 points and game-high 12 rebounds. The senior from Atlanta, Georgia shot 57.9% (11-of-19) from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers. Freshman
Fletcher Abee was second on the team with 14 points, including a game-high three 3-pointers, while Batiste was the final Bulldog in double-digit scoring with 10 points to go along with seven assists and six boards. Hoover was the leading scorer for the Terriers with 19 points, including going a perfect 9-for-9 at the free throw line.
HARRIS NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Harris was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Harris, who earned the honor for the first time in his career, is the first Bulldog to be named the SoCon Player of the Week since
Lew Stallworth earned the honor in back-to-back weeks during the 2018-19 campaign (Nov. 27, Dec. 4). After missing the Bulldogs' home game on Jan. 4 against Western Carolina, Harris returned to action and gave the Bulldogs a much-needed spark off the bench against the defending conference champions, Wofford. Harris scored a game- and career-high 32 points in 32 minutes. The senior shot 57.9% (11-of-19) from the field and added a pair of 3-pointers. In the game against the Terriers, Harris recorded his sixth double-double of the season, seventh of his career, with a game-high 12 rebounds to match his season high. He drew eight fouls in the game, and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Harris is riding an eight-game streak where he has scored in double figures, averaging 18.1 points per game in that stretch, including eclipsing the 25-point mark twice. He boasts three double-doubles over those games with an average of 7.8 boards per outing.
THE BULLDOGS NATIONALLY
The Citadel enters the weekend in the top 50 in NCAA Division I in five different statistical categories, including in the top 20 in three of those. The Bulldogs are tied for fourth in the nation in 3-point field goals made per game (10.7) and eighth in point scored per game (82.8). The 'Dogs are also tied for 20th with 16.6 assists per game, tied for 22nd with 160 3-pointers made, and tied for 28th with 459 3-point field goal attempts.

Batiste enters this weekend 16th in NCAA Division I with 6.3 assists per game and tied for 28
th with 95 total assists.
RICE NATIONALLY
Junior
Kaiden Rice enters the weekend ranked tied for 28
th in the nation with an average of 3.00 3-pointers made per game, and is also tied for 45
th in the nation with 124 3-point field goal attempts.
RICE CLIMBING THE RANKS
Rice boasts 149 3-pointers made in his career, a mark that has him ranked 12
th in program history. He is 11 treys away from cracking the top 10 in program history.
THE HISTORY WITH UNC GREENSBORO
UNC Greensboro boasts an all-time record of 28-9 over The Citadel on the hardwood, including a 12-5 record in Charleston. The Spartans are 25-4 all-time in regular-season Southern Conference games against the Bulldogs and have won the last 11 in the series with the last Citadel victory being an 85-83 road win in overtime on Jan. 5, 2015. The last home win in the series for the Bulldogs came back on Jan. 31, 2009 when the 'Dogs defeated UNCG 66-60.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
UNC Greensboro enters Wednesday's game with a 13-5 record overall, including 3-2 in Southern Conference contests and 4-2 on the road. The Spartans most recent defeated Furman 86-73 on the road on Jan. 11 after dropping a 64-57 decision at home to preseason league favorite ETSU, which followed a 98-92, double-overtime loss at Wofford on Jan. 4. The Spartans are currently averaging 73.4 points per game compared to allowing 59.1 points per outing, a +14.3 point differential, which is 16
th in the nation. UNCG is shooting 43.5% on the year, while their opponents have converted field goals at a .407 clip. From 3-point range, UNCG averages 8.7 made 3-pointers per game while shooting 31.8% from beyond the arc. In comparison, their foes have converted 33.4% of their treys, averaging 6.6 treys per outing. Under the basket, UNCG averages 36.9 boards per game, and their opponents average 33.1.
UNCG INDIVIDUALLY
Isaiah Miller and
Kaleb Hunter are the only two players on UNCG's roster to average double-figure scoring with Miller averaging 18.3 points per game and Hunter chipping in 10.4. Miller also leads the team with 57 assists, 47 steals and 42 made free throws. Behind the duo, eight Spartans average between 6.0 and 8.1 points per game, including
Kyrin Galloway's 8.1 points per game. Galloway leads the team with 30 made 3-pointers.
James Dickey averages 7.7 points per contest to go along with a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per outing and 35 blocked shots.
Mohammad Abdulsalam, who averages 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, leads the team with a 64.9% shooting percentage from the field. Miller, Dickey and
Malik Massey, who averages 6.0 points per contest, have started all 18 games for the Spartans. Galloway has started all 15 games he has appeared in with
Angelo Allegri, who averages 7.1 points per contest, having started 10 games.
THE HISTORY WITH VMI
Saturday will mark the 113
th meeting on the hardwood between the Bulldogs and Keydets in a series that dates back to the 1920-21 season. The Citadel holds a 58-54 record over the Keydets, but VMI holds a 31-21 advantage over the 'Dogs in Lexington. The two teams split the series last season with each team winning on its home court.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI enters the week 5-13 overall with a 0-5 record in conference play. The Keydets are in the midst of a six-game losing skid, but are 4-5 at home with wins over Christendom College, Goucher, Stetson and Ferrum College. VMI will play at Mercer on Wednesday, Jan. 15 before returning home to host the Bulldogs. VMI averages 73.3 points per game while giving up 68.8 points per outing. The Keydets are second in the nation with 201 3-pointers made, an average of 11.2 per contest, and third with 536 3-point field goal attempts. VMI has connected on 43.6% of its attempts from the field compared to 43.9% by the opposition. The Keydets have converted 37.5% of their 3-point attempts, just ahead of their foes' percentage of 34.6% from beyond the arc.
VMI INDIVIDUALLY
Three Keydets lead VMI in scoring with double-digit points highlighted by
Travis Evee's 13.2 points per contest. Behind Evee, who has 48 made 3-pointers on the year,
Kamdyn Curfman averages 11.1 points per game, including knocking down a team-best 51 treys, and
Garrett Gilkeson contributes 10.6 points per outing. Gilkeson and
Tyler Creammer lead the team with 5.9 and 5.6 rebounds per game respectively.
Jake Stephens leads the team with 17 blocked shots to go along with 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing. Of players who have taken at least 75 shots, Evee leads the way with a .503 shooting percentage from the field. Curfman and Gilkeson are the only two players to have started all 18 games so far, while
Myles Lewis has started all 17 games he has appeared in. Stephens has started 13 games and
Greg Parham has started 12.
COMING UP
Following the game in Lexington, Virginia, the Bulldogs will remain on the road for the final road tilt of January, heading to Chattanooga on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The 'Dogs will then close out the month with a pair of home games against in-state foes Furman (Jan. 25) and Wofford (Jan. 29).

Fans attending ticketed athletic events at The Citadel this year are reminded of the new clear bag policy that has been implemented. Under the policy, fans will be allowed to bring with them a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or a one-gallon plastic bag (such as Ziploc or Hefty bags).
